A Hands-On Farm Experience for High School Students

Bring animal science to life with an interactive 4-hour farm experience designed to give high school students real-world exposure to animal care, behavior, husbandry, sustainability, and farm operations. Students will learn through observation, discussion, and supervised hands-on activities with farm animals.

Learn, Observe, Handle & Apply

Students will build practical knowledge throughout the class and then apply what they have learned through safe, supervised animal interactions.

From Animal Care to Farm Careers

Driving the energy revolution

  • Animal Husbandry & Behavior
    Students will learn the fundamentals of responsible animal care, including nutrition, daily care, hoof trimming, grooming, and pasture and living-environment management. They will also observe animals in their natural social groups and learn how to recognize body language, herd dynamics, prey-animal behavior, and signs of comfort or stress

  • Mini Horse Experience & Careers
    Students will put their knowledge into practice through a safe, supervised mini horse experience. They will learn how to safely approach and halter a mini horse, groom and handle the animal appropriately, read body language while working together, and lead a mini horse through an obstacle course.

  • Farm Career Opportunities
    Students will learn about the different careers that support farm operations and animal care. Career paths introduced during the class may include animal keeper, veterinary technician, farrier, farm manager, sustainability or compost coordinator, nonprofit and education staff, and head grower.

  • Guided Farm Tour & Sustainability
    Students will meet a variety of farm animals and even some exotics while learning about their species, adaptations, care, and unique characteristics. They will also learn about sustainability, composting, and the overall mission of the farm.
